Morgan’s is a family run butcher with a loyal following and a reputation for high quality locally sourced produce. In 2016 they underwent a rebrand and a refurbishment of their popular Farnham shop, and needed a flexible stylish website to reflect this new image and appeal to a discerning local audience. Having worked with them on other marketing projects, we were the natural partners for them to choose, but we needed to be sympathetic to their busy day-to-day commitments to running the business, and their limited technical skills and importantly, be mindful of their budget, when responding to their request to work with them.
We designed and built a website based on the WordPress CMS but with bespoke hand-coded templates to give the site its own identity and to ensure it complemented the new Morgan’s look and feel. An important part of the service that Morgan’s give their customer is advice about cooking with the produce they sell, so we added a series of inexpensively produced ‘how to’ videos along with a simple interactive guide to cuts of meat. The site also featured prominent imagery of the Morgan’s team, who pride themselves on the rapport they have with their customers old and new, and we set up a one day photo shoot to provide the right kind of imagery with a friendly, approachable feeling.
The WordPress CMS allows the management to update the site without our assistance, should they need to, although we are retained to provide graphics and photography as and when required. Using WordPress alongside hand-coded templates also provides a semantic structure that assists search engine visibility and we have seen a noticeable improvement in Morgan’s SERPs since the site was launched in the Autumn of 2016.
